My wife earned income in another state while I was on business travel, does she owe tax to our home state?
scott b asked:
My job in Massachusetts made me travel to Texas for business for 5 months. My wife went with me to Texas. While we were there she got a temporary job in Texas. Technically we lived in Massachusetts because I was on travel, but should she have to pay state income tax to Massachusetts for her income in Texas?

Although the laws vary from state to state, generally you must report on your state income tax all income received while a resident of that state. MA is a state which follows this general rule. Sorry, but she will have to report her TX income on her MA return.
Although you didn’t ask about it, and assuming you are also a MA resident, did you know 1) You also must report TX income earned on your MA report, and 2) You may be able to take a deduction on your federal tax return for living expenses while you were working in TX?
