How can I get started in travel writing or similar career that is related to travel?

First understand it’s a very small field with a lot of people trying to get into.
That being said, there is no real method for getting into travel writing other than just writing about your travels. Of course going to college and getting a degree in English or literature would be helpful in learning to write better. It would also give you a nice fall back skill while you try to break into the business. Travel writing isn’t really much different than any other type of writing, just the subject. Short version…you need to be a very good writer.
Start writing about your travels and submitting them to travel magazines and book companies. There is no other way to break into the writing business.
As for getting started and making good money at the same time, sorry to be brutal but you need to get that idea out of your mind. New writers make little money writing, they support themselves with other jobs. No one is going to pay you while you learn and even when they do start, it won’t be much for a while.
