The Two Ronnies once had a headline of news that BR intended to increase seating capacity by 50% so nobody have to sit next to Jimmy Saville. Well its not bad. Nowadays our trains are dangerously overcrowded.

When I was a nipper, the 125 was THE cutting edge of rail technology. There were those fairly fast, long distance diesel locomotives that made a huge racket (Class 47?), but they were nothing like this beauty!

The age of the age of the train.

I’ve not been on a 125 in years now either. I was in Newcastle about a year ago and got the 225, but it was bloody busy so I don’t know if they’re comfortable, as I was standing – been ages since I had a nice long train journey in comfort! I don’t know about these Pendolino’s, I think they’re rather like the Voyager’s that XC and VWC have; pretty poorly maintained and built.
